About the Team
Daniel C. Allison MD, FACS, and his team base their treatment philosophy on caring for patients like they would their own family members. If you have an advanced orthopedic condition, whether it be a bone tumor, a soft tissue mass, a complex degenerative joint disorder, complex skeletal trauma (fracture), or a severe orthopedic complication (infection, implant failure, nonunion), an experienced surgical team with advanced training and extensive expertise in advanced musculoskeletal reconstruction can make all the difference. Because of the relative rarity of these conditions, there are a limited number of surgeons like Dr. Allison in the country.
We provide advanced options for the treatment of musculoskeletal tumors, ranging from soft tissue and bone sarcomas to metastatic bone disease, as well as benign bone and soft tissue growths. Some of the cancers that we treat most often are metastases (people with metastatic bone disease are living longer than ever, so longevity of reconstruction is paramount), osteosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and soft tissue sarcomas, which require comprehensive, multidisciplinary care, including surgical treatment from an expert with specialized oncologic training, like Dr. Allison.
In addition to removing bone and soft tissue tumors and cancers, we provide specialized procedures to reconstruct bones, joints, and soft tissues to further restore function, using both minimally invasive and advanced surgical techniques. These techniques can readily reconstruct bone and joint structures damaged by non-tumor conditions like severe arthritis, complex fractures & trauma, avascular necrosis, infection, joint replacement failure, and other severe destructive and degenerative disorders.
Services Provided
Advanced Joint Replacement
The problem of major joint degeneration can be further compounded by bone loss, deformity, scarring, and soft tissue compromise, especially when the hip, knee, and shoulder are involved, and their reconstruction can pose a major challenge.
When the degenerative condition is less complex (as with standard arthritis) but still requires surgical treatment, it is important to perform the reconstruction in the safest and least invasive means possible and to ensure experience with the technique.
Dr. Daniel C. Allison’s extensive experience in advanced orthopedic reconstructive procedures has given him the expertise to handle even the most complex joint disorders with relative ease. He is considered a revision specialist (fixing other joint replacements if they fail) and is the surgeon designer of several primary and revision joint replacement implant systems.
Musculoskeletal Tumors
Tumors of the musculoskeletal system require a specific set of skills. Only an orthopedic oncologic specialist like Dr. Allison has the knowledge and training necessary to safely and effectively remove musculoskeletal tumors and reconstruct the residual bone, joint, and soft tissue to eliminate disease and restore mobility and function.
Fractures & Trauma
People of all ages are vulnerable to fractures after injury, which often require rapid and precise treatment to optimize outcomes. The most common reasons for critical fractures today include motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, and falls. Sometimes, even with the appropriate initial management, these fractures may not heal or may heal in the wrong position.
Daniel C. Allison MD underwent six years extensive surgical training at the Los Angeles County + USC Level 1 Trauma Center. This core training, in addition to his advanced fellowship training and extensive experience in treating destructive bone tumors gives him the ability to fix or optimize even the most extensive or complex fracture or traumatic sequelae.

About the Doctor
Dr. Daniel C. Allison is the ideal physician to coordinate the multifaceted and multi-disciplinary treatment unique to the areas of musculoskeletal tumors, advanced joint reconstruction, extensive skeletal trauma, and severe orthopedic complications. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery with fellowship training and extensive expertise in musculoskeletal oncology and advanced orthopedic reconstruction. Dr. Allison is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). He is also a member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS), the Orthopedic Trauma Association (OTA), the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons (SOMOS), and the American Orthopedic Association (AOA). He is Assistant Director of Orthopedic Oncology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Co-Director of Orthopedic Oncology at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. He is a Commander in the United States Navy Reserve and deployed to Iraq in 2018 as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, has designed several well-received, cutting-edge orthopedic implant systems, and has been invited to lecture at academic institutions across the world to speak about his expertise and research.
Many surgeons have little experience with orthopedic oncology, complex bone and joint disorders, and revision joint replacement because of their relative complexity and the specialized training required. Dr. Allison is among the world’s most highly trained and experienced specialists treating complex orthopedic conditions and tumors affecting the musculoskeletal systems He has significant experience with pelvic and extremity cancer and trauma and an intimate knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics that is essential to treat these and other destructive conditions.
A coordinated, dedicated, multi-disciplinary team lead by a specialist like Dr. Allison offers the extensive resources, experience, and dedication necessary to optimize outcome in these difficult musculoskeletal conditions.

INSURANCES ACCEPTED
Unfortunately, due to continuous federal funding cuts in combination with the rising costs of high-level, attentive medical practice, as of 10/1/2023, Dr. Allison has “opted-out” of Medicare is no longer able to accept Medicare payment for services.
* for more information on Medicare’s continuous cuts to providers over the past 25 years, you can visit here and here.
Dr. Allison accepts all major private insurances (Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Healthnet, etc.), but as an “out-of-network” provider, which means he does not follow the standard insurance companies “in-network” rate (which is unfortunately closely tied to the ever-declining Medicare rate).
The good news is that if you have PPO insurance and any out-of-network benefits, insurance companies are obligated to cover your medically necessary services (unlike HMO’s in which members must be seen by contracted providers who are able to manage the condition). Furthermore, very robust state (California Assembly Bill 72 [AB-72]) and federal (The “No Surprises Act”) laws ensure that you can never be forced to pay an out-of-network provider’s bill that you don’t agree to beforehand.
In addition, Dr. Allison has financial aid and other programs that can significantly minimize or potentially eliminate your out-of-pocket responsibility, including the possibility of Dr. Allison going “in-network” just for your case if it is complex and no other in-network provider is available to provide treatment in a timely manner.
Dr. Allison also often works with HMO’s (including Med-Cal HMO’s), PPO plans with no out-of-network benefits, and workman’s compensation plans on a per-case basis to treat complex, important conditions when an in-network surgeon is unable to offer timely and appropriate treatment.
In this way, if you have a complex and important orthopedic condition that no provider within your insurance plan can take care of in a timely and appropriate manner, it is very likely that Dr. Allison can still take your case at no additional cost to you.
